Holy crap! Watta week! I flew up to Fort Saint John on Tuesday morning. The plane was late getting in, as usual. So by the time my partner and I got to site it was late in the afternoon. The site is a 3 hour drive north of FSJ. When got there none of the plant operators would let us bring anything down to work on it 'cuz they thought it would bring their world to a screeching halt. They don't understand. The end result, Tuesday was a waste.
Wednesday, we were actually able to do what we came to do. Unfortunately, after changing the data aquisition network to talk to our WAN, rolling out new PC's the 2 plant sites and running a full diagnostics on the plant control server it was 11:30 pm. Man, we were beat. But its OK cuz we get to fly home tomorrow! Right? Wrong!
Thursday morning we drove back to FSJ through 2 ft of snow. Freakin' scarey shit man. When we got to the office to wire up some new offices, the rack that was supposed to hold our brand new Cisco switch was the wrong one. The new network printer had not shown up.
So we did what we could and went to the airport to go home. The woman behind the counter told us that our plane was about 45 mins late. No big deal! Time for a well deserved jug of beer! Then 45 mins later we hear that the plane is now 2 hours late. Aw crap. What can you do but wait. Then, after waiting for 3 and a half hours they tell us that the flight has been cancelled! Aaaaaargh! The plane had 'mechanical problems'. FSJ is not exactly a hub of activity so we are stuck. We were able to another flight back tomorrow (Fri) morning but this just means I am stuck here for one more day.
There's a saying around work tat goes like this. I spent two weeks in Fort Saint John one day.
Oh well. At least I'm getting paid well, otherwise.....
